Weekending-Quick Peek

Friday started with margaritas and the Atlanta United vs Orlando game.  This team is so much fun to watch.  Saturday DID start with a flat tire, but that didn't stop me from riding in doors, and getting caught up on some TV shows.  Steve had to work so I spent the day knitting on Tide Chart, and finished listening to The Rosie Project, such a delightful book.  I felt Don was a combination of Dr. Sheldon Cooper and Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock-so much fun.

On Sunday I was able to get out for a ride and try a new route-so satisfying.  To celebrate the final day of the Tour de France I made this Smoked Salmon Tarte FlambĂ© featured on Ann Mah's blog.  It was so delicious and easy.  I added the tomatoes, and will definitely make this again.

I was TOTALLY bummed that Peter Sagan was disqualified after Stage 4, but was still pleased that Froome managed to handle the lead for such a long time; this race is definitely not for the faint of heart.  Seeing the tour in person is on my bucket list-sooner rather than later!
Sunday afternoon we had plans with friends to see Annie Get Your Gun,  the last show for the Stage Door Players  2016-2017 season.  We've already booked our season tickets and look forward to another great season of shows.  The show was followed by an early dinner at the King  George Tavern, one of our favorite places to eat.  They've changed their menu a little bit, and we couldn't resist trying a couple new, and very decadent dishes.  It was too dark in the restaurant to take a group photos, but maybe next time.

This next weekend will feature another match between the AtlUtd and Orlando, Andrew will be home for a while, and my regular meet up with my sewing friends.  I hope your weekend had some highlights that made you smile.

Weekending|

Hi! for sure it has been a while. I sincerely am trying to get back into the groove of doing posts. There has been lots going on despite the silence.  With Mary's help by email, and this wonderful diagram I finally got moving along on Tide Chart.  I spent a good chunk of Saturday working on it, and by Sunday afternoon had divided for the sleeves.  I'm hoping that I'll have it finished for our trip to Alaska in 29 days!  My plan is to start knitting the sleeves after a few more rows on the body, and then if I don't have it finished it'll make great airplane knitting.  Last week I work feverously on Stillwater.

and have plans to try Beckett and Brookings by Marie Greene.  If these are as well written as Stillwater they are going to be great additions to my wardrobe.

We had a short visit with Andrew on Saturday, he will be staying with us while he looks for a job, so he brought a load of stuff to put in storage and spent the rest of the day hanging out.  I'm looking forward to having him home for a bit, and we are also we're hoping he'll be able to dog sit for us while we're gone too!  I've been wanting to visit the cemetery where my grand parents, great-grand parents, and one set, possible 2 great-great grandparents are buried.   I was named after my great-great grandmother on my dad's dad's side, and last time I visited I couldn't find the head stone.  I was a bit worried that the engraving had weathered to the point of being unreadable.  However, that was not the case, and I made notes as to the location of the grave sites.  It's really sad to see how much this cemetery has been neglected its quite old and dates back to 1836.  Maybe I'll get involved with the Roswell Historical Society at some point.  I definitely want to go back when we're not getting eat up  by mosquitos and try to tidy up my family plots.  The main headstone for the Bowens had fallen over, and I'd like to have that put back to rights.

Steve and Sophie came with me so we had a nice afternoon getting out of the apartment, and of course, the promise of pizza helped too!  We ate at Diesel, which is a converted car repair garage which I would by on my way to and from school as a kid often stopping to talk to the mechanic nicknamed "Pickle".

It was definitely a weekend to be Italian as I've been craving spaghetti, not just meat sauce, but the noodles, so I made sauce on Saturday, set up my pasta machine I bought a few months ago, and voila!  So tasty!  I have been using buckwheat flour for the last few batches to cut down on the gluten, and I plan to do a bit more experimenting with home made pastas. Andrew has promised to not pack up his pasta machine- the hand crank kind, so we can try out some ravioli and pappardella.

The weekend was also filled with reading for Summer bingo, blog reading, watching the Tour de France, Wimbledon, soccer, a bit of laundry, and binge watching Turn.  Whew-no wonder I was tired when i hit the sack!  Hope your weekend had lots of things that made you smile

Weekending

This weekend we went to Statesboro to scatter some of PJ's ashes. We've put it off for a while, and it was just time.  I haven't posted anything about PJ's passing on the blog, but Mary did a great job here and here. Eight months later and it is still very difficult.   Since Andrew will be leaving Statesboro soon, and heading to Clemson for graduate school it seemed an appropriate time.  PJ's girlfriend joined us and there were lots of memories and tears shared.  I took a few photos knowing this would probably be the last time we are in the area.  One place we visited was where PJ started Brainiacs Studios.  He dreamed of bringing creative minds and talent together.  We found out at his funeral that he also provided shelter to many people with no place to go.  This place was so peaceful, and I understand why PJ loved it here.
We headed to the campus of Georgia Southern University where PJ earned degrees in International Trade and French.  Where this tree is located is an area known as sweetheart circle-supposedly it looks like a heart from the sky.  I thought this oak tree was a good place to leave a little of PJ behind.  We also headed over to the foreign language department.  Charlotte commented that the whole campus was PJ's favorite place to be, and it was hard to pick just one or two that were special..
While Saturday was pretty draining emotionally and physically-over 8 hours in the car and it was sooooo hot.  We always joked that Statesboro hot was way different than any other hot.
On a different note Sunday was pretty jam packed with stuff- laundry, cooking, a fresh pedicure-manicure and getting caught up with general stuff.  I got out early on Sunday for a bike ride.  I'm managing about 16 miles on city streets in about 90 minutes.  My goal is to do that in about an hour by fall-we'll see.  This is one of my stops-yes that is the I-285 bypass, and yes I may just be a bit crazy!  This kind of cycling certainly keeps me on my toes-and alert!
I worked on  my blocks on the go for quilts on the grow-the new hexagon, and I am trying to get caught up on these.  I meet up with Brenda and Joyce in a couple weeks.  There are sooo many steps, and it's all hand stitched!
There was also long walks with Sophie along Dunwoody Trail.  This is one of the things we love most about living in this area-so far anyway.
The trip to Statesboro gave me a lot of knitting time too.  I'm about 1/2 finished with a baby blanket for a co-worker's new baby.  I even managed to make some headway on my summer BINGO reading too.  I am looking forward to a couple weekends that are dedicated to bikes rides [both dyas], knitting, reading, dinner out with friends, and a show at our local theater.  Hope your weekend was everything you wanted.

Weekending.

So nice to have a weekend where there wasn't too much by way of obligation.  I didn't even mind the rain, and not being able to go for a bike ride.  All the more reason to stay inside, knit, and get caught up on some shows on the DVR.  Steve had to work Saturday afternoon/evening, so it was just Sophie and me, and we had a fine time.  Friday afternoon was spent on the balcony trying to get an on-line order with petco.com sorted out-very very frustrating way to start the weekend, but we made it through.

I got to utilize the fitness center for the first time on Saturday, and was quite please with the set up and the equipment provided.  I look forward to working out no matter the weather.
A bit of laundry
College football [and knitting]-so-so disappointed in Georgia Tech
There were a couple errands that had to be done, but fortunately Sophie got to go with me-one included going to Petco because of the on-line fiasco with trying to order dog food!  With everything so close to our apartment we made our 3 stops and got back in less than 30 minutes.
An evening of knitting, and FINALLY getting Walk Away-under way!  I've started this project over no fewer than 3 times!
I finished To Set a Watchman and I honestly had a hard time putting this one downt-one of the few books I made notes on, and want to discuss it after I read To Kill a Mockingbird so I can finalize my thoughts on both.
I had to be at my office for a few hours, but that didn't keep me from watching the Falcons-of course when I left they were not winning.  Am so glad they pulled out a victory.

The entire weekend required these:
Other than the fitness center NOT being opened on time Sunday-it was a fantastic weekend, and we ended the weekend by having dinner with an old co-worker.  So much fun getting caught up.  Hope you had a little bit of sunshine for your weekend.

Weekend Lens

Now that I've released myself from Project Life, I hope to be a better blogger. I'm also going to make a concerted effort to use my digital camera a lot more. I managed some pretty good photos on both the digital camera and my I-phone. I also got LOTS of things done, but I did fall short on finishing 2 things that I was sure I could make happen. I guess I really can't knit in my sleep! Saturday included the final bit of cutting before sewing some exchange blocks together-trying to use the self timer!

Fresh baked bread on Saturday AND Sunday, I love this book, and I FINALLY realized a couple things I was doing wrong in my baking. The stone goes on the very bottom, and the broiler pan that holds the water goes above the bread-duh. It is actually in the baking instructions how'd I miss that?! Also, the oven has to be at 450 degrees for 20 minutes before the baking begins- yea that was in the instructions too. Am feeling really inspired now to try more of the recipes in the book.  Also, made some chocolate chip cookies-there is nothing better than fresh baked goodies.
I got some deep cleaning accomplished, laundry, and rode my bike indoors for my exercise.  Looking forward to warmer weather so I can ride outdoors-so different and very invigorating.

I dropped off what I hope is the final load of stuff at Goodwill until we actually put our house on the market, and need to do a final purge.

Moved all my knitting books and patterns to my side of the office, and dropped off 79 books at the library.  It felt really good having completed this task.  The basement warehouse is much more empty than it was a couple months ago.

Sewing blocks for the exchange-ended exactly where I wanted, but realized I may be missing the squares for another club members blocks-ugh!

I started this hat which I actually hoped I'd finish, but I took advantage of the daylight to work on Aperture-I'm only about 1/2 way through the short rows on the collar, then I still need to weave in the ends and block-will this project EVER be finished?!

Sunday was church, sewing, knitting, grilling, and spending some time with Sophie in the back yard.  It was on the cool side, but so nice to be outside.

I also finished The Light Between the Oceans and LOVED it!  I started Daughter of Fortune, and am pleased that I'm making serious headway on my Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge.  I'm looking forward to a pretty simple week, with activities planned for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  One of my goals for 2015 is to keep my schedule simple and open, and enjoy the right now.
